A university designed around the working adult
Berkshire University was founded in 2015 to open higher education to people with full-time jobs and family commitments.
Why Berkshire exists
Millions of capable people stopped studying because life started: a job, a family, a move. Years later they do the work of a graduate, without the degree.
Traditional universities ask these people to start again from the first lecture, as if their years of work had taught them nothing. Berkshire was built on the opposite idea. Adults learn from experience. A university for adults should be able to recognise that learning, test it properly, and then teach what is missing.
Our students and graduates, many of them through partner learning centres in their own countries, live and work across the Arab world, in Europe and in other regions.
What we are here to do
Our mission
To give working adults a rigorous and flexible route to a university degree, by assessing what they already know and teaching what they still need.
Our vision
A university where experience and study carry the same weight, because both are measured by the same standard.
Three words on our seal
- Knowledge
What you know matters more than where you learned it. We measure knowledge wherever it was gained.
- Integrity
Every grade comes from an assessment. Every statement we make about ourselves is one we can support.
- Excellence
Flexible does not mean easy. Our courses ask for real work, applied in real workplaces.
