Your experience, measured course by course
The Experience and Skills Assessment Program turns what you have learned at work into graded courses on your transcript. Nothing is assumed. Everything is tested.
We do not give credit for a job title
Ten years as a manager does not prove you can do everything a management course teaches. It makes it very likely. So we test it.
Every course in a Berkshire program has published learning outcomes. When you claim a course on the basis of experience, you are assessed against those same outcomes. If you meet them, the course goes on your transcript with the grade you earned. If you do not, you study the course like any other student.
This is why a Berkshire transcript can be read with confidence: every grade on it comes from an assessment.
Five steps, all online
Submit your record
Upload your CV, certificates and evidence of your work. The system reads them and prepares your file.
Program mapping
Your experience is mapped to a program, and to the courses in it that you may be able to claim.
Identity check
Before any test, we confirm that the person taking it is you.
Course tests
For each claimed course you sit a short test drawn from that course's question bank.
Your study plan
Passed courses are recorded with their grades. The rest become your personal study plan.
One grading scale for every course
The same scale applies whether a course was studied or assessed.
| Grade | Score | Studied course | Experience test |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 90 to 100 | Pass | Pass |
| B | 80 to 89 | Pass | Pass |
| C | 70 to 79 | Pass | Pass |
| D | 60 to 69 | Pass | Not yet mastered |
- Minimum to pass60% for a course you study with us. 70% for an experience test, because you are claiming you already master the course.
- Not yet masteredIf you do not reach the minimum, nothing negative is written on your transcript. You can retake the test when you are ready, or study the course.
- GraduationA cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Every student studies with us
- Bachelor's programsUp to 70% of the courses can be met through assessed experience. At least 30% is always studied with us. In a 40-course program, that is at least 12 courses.
- Graduation projectAlways completed with us. It cannot be met by assessment.
- Master's and doctorateThe limit for each program is published on its program page.
What this means for your time
How long your degree takes depends on your results. You receive a personal study plan, with the number of courses and an expected finish date, before you enrol and before you pay.
Fast decisions, with a person where it matters
Clear cases are decided at once
When your result is clearly above or below the line, the platform records it immediately. You do not wait weeks for a committee.
Borderline cases go to a person
A score on the line, or a document that needs a second look, is reviewed by a member of staff before any decision is recorded.
You can appeal
If you believe a result is wrong, you can appeal. The final decision in every appeal is made by a person, never by the system alone.
Decisions are audited
A sample of assessment decisions is reviewed every month, and the review is signed off by the University's management.
Every decision is logged
The evidence you submitted, the test you sat and the decision taken are kept together in your record.
The policy is public
This page is the policy. We would rather you read it before you apply than discover it later.
What appears on your documents
Your transcript lists every course in your program with its code, credit hours and the grade you earned, in the standard university format. Assessed courses count toward your grade point average exactly like studied courses.
How each course was completed is kept in your student record, together with the date of the assessment. We never write a term or a date on a document that did not happen.
See what your experience is worth.
